Featuring a strong Romanesque style, the Pisa Cattedrale (Il Duomo di Pisa) is simple in design, with wonderful use of coloured marble. In 1595, Pisa cathedral was badly damaged by fire and sadly many of the cathedral's historic works inside were destroyed. These were quickly replaced by some of Italy's leading Renaissance artists of the time and the interior was soon refurbished.
Attractions at Pisa's Cattedrale (Il Duomo di Pisa) include the famous Pisano pulpit - a masterpiece by Giovanni Pisano which was discovered in a crate in 1926 and reassembled shortly after, the tomb of Emperor Henry VII by Tino da Camaino (1315), a large bronze lamp that inspired Galileo's famous law of the pendulum, bronze angels located above the cathedral's choir entrance, an enormous 13th-century mosaic Christ Pancrator - completed in 1302 by Cimabue, and the huge dome itself - which is full of highly intricately painted frescoes.
